Winnipeg Jets News

Pionk is week-to-week with a new, undisclosed injury.

Pionk did not play the final four weeks leading up to the Olympic break and will remain sidelined when the team returns to action, out week-to-week with a new ailment. With Josh Morrissey (upper body) also sidelined, Logan Stanley will likely fill in as the interim quarterback on Winnipeg's top powerplay unit.

Neal Pionk
Morrissey (upper-body) has been placed on IR.

Morrissey was not able to contribute to Team Canada at the Olympics after suffering an injury in their opening game, and will remain sidelined when the Jets return to action on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The Jets have recalled Kale Clague from Manitoba (AHL) in a corresponding move.

Josh Morrissey
Clague has been recalled from Manitoba (AHL).

Klague was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, but has never played more than 33 games in an NHL season. The 27-year-old defenseman has spent the entirety of the previous two seasons in the AHL and has 21 points (8G / 13A) in 44 games with the Manitoba Moose this season.

Morrissey (upper-body) is out vs. Vancouver on Wednesday.

Morrissey accompanied Team Canada for the Silver Medal performance at the Olympics, but did not play because of an upper-body injury and will remain sidelined for the Jets on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The 30-year-old Morrissey is averaging 24:37 time-on-ice and has 42 points (10G / 32A) in 56 games this season.

Comrie will start in Vancouver on Wednesday.

After Connor Hellebuyck's heroic performance to help the USA secure a Gold Medal in a 2-1 overtime win over Canada at the Olympics on Sunday, the Jets will turn to Comrie to tend the twine in their return to action. Comrie did not play much leading up to the Olympic break, but performed well when called upon, winning three straight outings while posting a 1.00 GAA and a .960 SV%.

Eric Comrie
Morrissey (undisclosed) will not play Friday vs. Switzerland.

Morrissey got hurt early in Canada's tournament opening win over the Czechs, and will miss their second game vs. Switzerland. Team Canada didn't provide much of an update on Morrissey's status, so it's unclear how many games he will miss. Travis Sanheim will draw into the lineup to replace Morrissey.

Josh Morrissey
Morrissey (undisclosed) left Thursday's game vs. Czechia and will not return.

Morrissey played just 7:10 TOI before leaving Thursday's game vs. Czechia with an undisclosed injury. If Morrissey misses Friday's game vs. Switzerland, Travis Sanheim will dress as Canada's seventh defenseman. Shea Theodore will presumably take on a bigger role after starting Wednesday's game as the seventh blueliner.

Josh Morrissey
Hellebuyck will start Thursday vs. Latvia.

It's been a bit of a disappointing season for Hellebuyck, who was so dominant in 2024-25. Through 36 games, he's 13-16-7 with a 2.79 GAA and .900 SV%, a far cry from the 2.01 GAA and .925 SV% we saw last season. Internationally, he's only appeared in the 4Nations tournament since 2018, and he was great for the Americans, going 2-1-0 with a 1.59 GAA and .932 SV%.

Hellebuyck will start vs. Montreal on Wednesday.

Hellebuyck's disappointing stretch continued on Monday, allowing four goals on 28 shots (.857 SV%) in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Dallas Stars. The 32-year-old Hellebuyck has allowed three or more goals in four straight (1-2-1) and has lost six of his last seven (1-3-3), posting a 2.87 GAA and .901 SV%. The Jets enter the action on Wednesday at even -105 odds at home against a Montreal Canadiens team with points in four straight games (3-0-1).

Hellebuyck will start in Dallas on Monday.

Hellebuyck will return to the crease on Monday against Jake Oettinger, who he hopes will be his understudy at the upcoming Winter Olympics. The 32-year-old Hellebuyck was solid in his previous game, saving 33 of 36 shots (.917 SV%), but, as has been the case most of the season, the Jets still fell 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Dating back to his return from a knee procedure in mid-December, Hellebuyck is posting uncharacteristically concerning numbers: 2.90 GAA and .894 SV in 20 games (5-9-6). The Jets enter Monday's contest as +129 road underdogs against a Dallas Stars team that has won five of its last six games (5-1-0).
