Ottawa Senators News

The Senators have sent Thomas Chabot to Saint John (QMJHL).

Chabot, 19, was the No.18 overall pick in 2015, but only appeared in one game during the Senators’ first nine games. Chabot had a tough time cracking the lineup, so he heads back to Saint John, where he had 11 goals and 34 assists (45 points) in 47 games a season ago.

Reimer will start Sunday in Detroit.

Reimer allowed three goals on 22 shots in the Panthers loss in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Reimer has lost his first two starts with the Panthers, while allowing a combined six goals on 50 shots (.880 SV%). The Panthers are struggling right now, which isn’t surprising given all of their injuries. Tonight he faces a Red Wings team that has won six of their last seven, but who were shutout last night.

The Sabres have sent Linus Ullmark to Rochester (AHL).

Ullmark was with the Sabres because Robin Lehner was out with an illness. Lehner will return as Anders Nilsson’s backup this afternoon, so Ullmark goes back to Rochester, where he is 3-1-0 with a 2.75 GAA and .926 SV% this season.

Reimer will start Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Reimer allowed three goals on 28 shots in the Panthers’ loss in Tampa Bay last Tuesday. Roberto Luongo started four of the first five games, but Reimer will go on Tuesday. Reimer will take on a Penguins team that is 3-2-1 while averaging 2.17 goals per game through their first six contests.

Chabot will make his NHL debut on Tuesday.

Chabot was a healthy scratch in the first three games of the season but he is expected to serve as a seventh defenseman on Tuesday. Chabot was the 18th overall pick in 2015 and is coming off of 45 points (11G / 34A) in 47 games with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) last year.

Reimer will make his Panthers debut on Tuesday.

Roberto Luongo started the first two games of the year, but Reimer will get his first start tonight in Tampa Bay. The 28-year-old had a great 2015-16 season with the Maple Leafs and Sharks, totalling a 17-14-7 record, 2.31 GAA and .922 SV%. With Luongo getting up there in age, Reimer is expected to see more starts than your average backup which makes him rosterable in deeper formats.

MacArthur is out indefinitely with another concussion.

MacArthur was hit from behind by Patrick Sieloff during a scrimmage at Senators’ training camp. A concussion limited MacArthur to just four games last year and he was finally getting back to health, but this latest concussion not only puts the veteran winger’s season in jeopardy but his career.

The Panthers have signed James Reimer to a five-year deal worth $17 million ($3.4M AAV).

Reimer, 28, split last season with the Maple Leafs and Sharks after being dealt at the Trade Deadline. He combined for a 17-14-7 record with a 2.31 GAA and .922 SV%. He has a career .914 SV% in 196 starts and signs with the Panthers as insurance for 37-year-old Roberto Luongo. Bobby Lu will likely start the majority of games, but Reimer should start more than your average backup with the upside for a straight platoon if he plays well.

The Blues have signed David Perron to a two-year deal worth $7.5 million ($3.75M AAV).

Perron, 28, was a first round pick of the Blues back in 2007 and spent the first six years of his career in St. Louis. Since then he has played for the Oilers, Penguins and Ducks, but has returned to the Blues. He is coming off of a 12-goal, 24-assist season with the Pens and Ducks and should slide right back into the Blues’ top-9.

Perron (shoulder) will return to the Ducks lineup for Game 1.

Perron has been sidelined with a separated shoulder since March 20th, but returns just in time for the start of the playoffs. The 27-year-old has enjoyed life in Anaheim, collecting 20 points (8G / 12A) in 28 games since being traded by Pittsburgh. He will skate on the left side of Ryan Getzlaf with Chris Stewart on the other wing.

Tonight he will take on a Wild team that is coming off of a tough week—they’ve lost three in a row while being outscored 11-5.
