Giroux is still searching for his first goal.

Giroux has just three assists and a minus-5 rating in nine games so far. The Islanders might give him reason to have hope that it could come Saturday. He has seven goals and 21 assists in 25 career games against them, his best point-per-game average against any NHL team.

Giroux made his preseason debut last night after sitting out early in training camp recovering from hand surgery.

“I felt better as the game went on,” Giroux said. “I think the first period was just getting back in the game and making plays.” Giroux won 9 of 11 faceoffs, which is a good sign that his hand is OK.

Flyers announce Claude Giroux will make his preseason debut tonight, following Aug. 15 hand surgery.

Giroux injured his hand in a golf incident this offseason. This is good news for the Flyers as it appears the injury will not force their star center to miss any regular season games. Giroux is one of the NHL's best playmakers and could make a run at the assists lead in 2013-14.

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired left-winger David Perron from the Blues in exchange for left-winger Magnus Paajarvi and a 2014 second-round draft pick.

Perron, 25, was drafted by St. Louis in the 1st Round, 26th overall in the 2007 entry draft. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native had 25 points with the Blues last season, scoring 10 goals and 15 assists in 48 games. He had a career high 50 points in 2009. Perron has three more years left on his contract at a cap hit of just over $3.8 million.

The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that center Lars Eller has been released from the hospital.

Eller was removed from the ice on a stretcher during the second period of Game 1 of the Canadiens' Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Ottawa Senators after he was hit by Ottawa's Eric Gryba. The team announced Thursday that Eller had been hospitalized after sustaining a concussion, facial fractures, loss of consciousness and had teeth knocked out after the hit and falling face-first to the ice.

No Clarke MacArthur at Leafs morning skate. Appears he'll be out again tonight with upper-body injury.

MacArthur will miss his second straight game. He had 43 points in 73 games last season and has 17 points in 30 games this year. He has produced fairly well and on a consistent basis over these last two years, making him a decent fantasy option in deeper leagues.
