Carolina Hurricanes News

Andersen is in the starter's crease at Carolina's morning skate.

Andersen has had a largely disappointing 2025-26 season, but recent struggles from Brandon Bussi have given him more opportunities, during which he has shown some encouraging signs. The 36-year-old veteran Andersen is sporting an under-.500 record for the first time in his career (9-11-5), but he has been much more dependable in recent games, posting a 4-1-3 record in his last eight, albeit with an underwhelming 2.59 GAA and .886 SV%. The Hurricanes enter Tuesday's contest as significant -204 home favourites against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that is 3-3-2 since the Olympic break, while playing without Sidney Crosby (lower body) and, more recently, Evgeni Malkin (suspension).

Andersen will start in Edmonton on Friday.

The Hurricanes could be returning to their typical rotation between the pipes as Frederik Andersen gets the call in Edmonton on Friday. Andersen was tagged with the loss in his last start, allowing two goals on 15 shots in a 2-1 loss in Seattle on Monday. The 13-year-veteran brings an 8-11-5 record and .874 SV% into Friday night's matchup, where the Hurricanes enter action at -120 on the money line.

Kochetkov (lower-body) has potential to return during Carolina's playoff run.

Kochetkov has not played since mid-December and was originally ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to address a lower-body injury. That said, Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky addressed the media following the Trade Deadline and stated that they are hopeful Kochetkov can rejoin the team if they make a playoff run, possibly even before then.

Carolina has acquired Nicolas Deslauriers from Philadelphia for a conditional 2027 7th round pick.

The Hurricanes have added some grit to their bottom-six forward group by acquiring Deslauriers from the Philadelphia Flyers. The 35-year-old Deslauriers averaged 8:05 time-on-ice while recording one assist, 33 penalty minutes, and 86 hits in 24 games this season.

Bussi will start in Vancouver on Wednesday.

Frederik Andersen was awarded rare consecutive starts for the Hurricanes, but the team will return to Bussi on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The 27-year-old rookie goalie had a shaky performance in his most recent outing, but continued his winning ways despite allowing four goals on 28 shots (.857 SV%) in a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Bussi has a 2.00 GAA and .911 SV% during an eight-game winning streak. The Hurricanes enter Wednesday's contest as enormous -302 road favourites against a Canucks team that has scored two or fewer goals in nine straight games (1-6-2).

Kotkaniemi is expected to draw back into Carolina's lineup in Vancouver on Wednesday.

Kotkaniemi has yet to play since NHL action resumed after the Olympic break, but he will re-enter the lineup on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The 25-year-old Finnish forward has nine points (2G / 7A) in 36 games this season and has only three assists in his last 17 games.

Andersen will start in Seattle on Monday.

The Hurricanes have alternated goalies, occasionally relying more heavily on Brandon Bussi. Still, after a strong performance by Andersen, saving 27 of 29 shots (.931 SV%) in a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, the team will turn to him again in hopes of helping him get into a rhythm. The 36-year-old Andersen has had an unmemorable 2025-26 season but has shown encouraging signs in his recent outings, saving 113 of 123 shots (.919 SV%) in his last four games (2-0-2). The Hurricanes enter Monday's contest as -175 road favourites against a Seattle Kraken team coming off a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Bussi will start against the Lightning on Thursday.

Bussi established himself as one of the feel-good stories of the NHL this season, and will hope to continue his success when Carolina returns from the Olympic break on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 27-year-old rookie recorded a 16-save shutout, his second of the season, in Carolina's final game before the break, a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers. He has won seven straight games while posting a 1.70 GAA and .921 SV%. The Hurricanes enter Thursday's contest as -141 home favourites against a Lightning team that defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 last night.
