A third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Schmidt has spent the last two seasons playing with the Syracuse Crunch (AHL). Schmidt has zero goals and one assist in 13 AHL games this season and is yet to make his NHL debut.
Schmidt was Tampa Bay's 2021 third-round pick (96th overall) and was expected to report to Syracuse (AHL) for his first professional season but is now not expected to be ready for the start of the 2023-24 season and is out indefinitely as he deals with an undisclosed injury. The 20-year-old defensemen had four goals, 24 assists, 74 PIMs and a +6 plus/minus through 64 games played with Kitchener in 2022-23.
Schmidt was a third-round pick (No.96 overall) in this summer's NHL Draft. The former USNDT player is now in the OHL and has picked up 11 points (6G / 5A) in 22 games on the Kitchener Rangers' blueline.
