With Charlie Lindgren on Injured Reserve, Stevenson served as Logan Thompson's back up on Sunday, but he has been reassigned to the AHL, with Garin Bjorklund being recalled in a corresponding move. Stevenson is an undrafted netminder who has spent most of the previous three seasons playing for the Hershey Bears (AHL). The 26-year-old Stevenson has a 2.94 GAA and .888 SV% in 33 games with Hershey this season (18-8-4). Washington enters Thursday's contest as -108 road favorites against Pittsburgh.

Stevenson has been serving as Darcy Kuemper's backup, with Charlie Lindgren sidelined with an injury. Hunter Shepard will replace him in that role on Tuesday. Stevenson has gone 4-1-0 while allowing 10 goals on 119 shots (.916 SV%) in five career AHL games.

Amidst the news that Darcy Kuemper may be absent from the Capitals matchup Friday vs. Pittsburgh due to the birth of his child, Clay Stevenson has been recalled from the Hershey Bears (AHL). The 24-year-old netminder was signed as an undrafted free-agent out of Dartmouth Collect (NCAA) ahead of the 2022-23 and has yet to make an NHL appearance. In his first season in the minor leagues he posted a 19-12-3 record with a .916 SV% and a 2.54 GAA for the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) in 2022-23. He is expected to backup Charlie Lindgren if Kuemper is unable to go.
