Charles-Alexis Legault News

Legault appeared in 12 games with the Hurricanes this season, scoring one goal with one assist (two points). With the Hurricanes' season over, he'll go to Chicago, where he has seven points (3G / 4A) in 22 games this season. He should be one of the first defensemen to return to the NHL should the Hurricanes be desperate for a defenseman call-up.

With their playoff position firmly secured, the Hurricanes will give a handful of players the night off on Thursday. Brind'Amour, Bradly Nadeau, and Legault will all slot in after being recalled on Wednesday.

Legault made his NHL debut earlier this season, scoring two points (1G / 1A) in an eight game stint with the Hurricanes. The 22-year-old defenseman, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, has seven points (3G / 4A) in 22 games with the Chicago Wolves (AHL) this season.

Legault made his NHL debut earlier this season, scoring two points (1G / 1A) in eight games with the Hurricanes. That said, the 22-year-old defenseman has spent most of the 2025-26 campaign in the AHL, where he has six points (2G / 4A) in 16 games with the Chicago Wolves.

Legault spent the early portion of the season with Carolina before undergoing surgery to repair multiple torn extensor tendons on his hand. The 22-year-old defenseman was averaging 13:16 time-on-ice and had two points (1G / 1A) in eight games with the Hurricanes.

Legault appeared to suffer a laceration on his hand during a second-period scrum in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 22-year-old rookie defenseman left a trail of blood on the ice as he skated off to the dressing room. He has since undergone successful surgery to repair multiple torn extensor tendons on his right hand and will be sidelined for three to four months.

Legault was a healthy scratch on Thursday, but he will replace Jalen Chatfield in the lineup on Saturday. Legault has no points in his first six career NHL games this season.

With K'Andre Miller returning from an injury on Thursday against the Minnesota Wild, Legault will likely be the odd man out as a healthy scratch. The 22-year-old, in his first NHL season, is averaging 13:26 time-on-ice and has zero points through six games.

With Shayne Gostisbehere (lower body) out of the lineup on Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights, Legault will draw in for his NHL debut. The 22-year-old Legault played 63 games in his first professional season with the Chicago Wolves (AHL) in 2024-25, scoring 14 points (3G / 11A).

Legault was Carolina's 2023 fifth-round pick (139th overall) and has signed a three-year, entry-level contract on Monday. The 20-year-old is coming off a successful second season with Quinnipiac University (NCAA) and had nine goals, and 24 points in 39 games played.
