San Diego will have their starting netminder return for the 2025-26 season after it was announced Tuesday that Calle Clang has signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Ducks. The 23-year-old struggled throughout 31 starts with San Diego (AHL) in 2024-25, with his 3.17 GAA, .895 SV% and 11-13-4 record.
Clang was recalled several days ago to serve as Lukas Dostal's backup due to John Gibson (illness) being out of the lineup. The 22-year-old Clang did not make it into the Ducks' crease and will return to the San Diego Gulls (AHL), where he has a 3.10 GAA and .896 SV% in 19 games (7-10-1).
Clang did not appear during his very brief stint with the Ducks and will head back to San Diego as Alex Stallock replaces him as John Gibson's (personal) placeholder for the time being. The 21-year-old Clang returns to the Gulls, where he struggled early in the season with his 2-7-2 record, .882 SV% and 3.76 GAA.
Clang was the 77th overall pick of the Ducks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and has a 3.76 GAA and .882 SV% in 12 games (2-7-2) with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL this season. John Gibson exited Sunday's contest against the New Jersey Devils in the second period and might be unable to suit up on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings, meaning Clang would likely serve as the backup to Lukas Dostal.
