Mantha is coming off of his best season as a pro, scoring 24 goals with 24 assists (48 points) in 80 games. Karlsson has missed the last two games following the death of his son. Despite the tragedy, Karlsson wants to play tonight against the Hurricanes, so he will replace Marian Gaborik as the Senators go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Karlsson has been hot as of late, picking up 20 points (3G / 17A) in his last 17 games.
Karlsson missed Monday’s practice and Tuesday’s morning skate, so he will not be available for tonight’s game vs. the Panthers. There’s no word what is ailing Karlsson, but it is expected to be short-term. Pat Sieloff was recalled from Belleville (AHL) and will play tonight with the Swede out.
