Pittsburgh Penguins News

Skinner will start against the Penguins on Friday.

Skinner took the loss his last time out, allowing three goals on 33 shots in a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Hurricanes. The 26-year-old netminder has struggled to open the season, posting a 1-3-1 record and an .866 SV% through five appearances. Luckily for Skinner, he's got a great opportunity to get back in the win column on Friday night. He draws a great matchup as the Oilers enter action as sizable favourites at -230.

Blomqvist will start on Friday in Edmonton.

After rolling with Alex Nedeljkovic for two straight games (0-1-1), the Penguins will turn back to Blomqvist between the pipes on Friday evening against the Edmonton Oilers. The Penguins have had suspect goaltending all season, ranking worst in the league with 35 goals allowed in eight games (3-4-1), but have had a glimmer of stability with Blomqvist in the crease. The 22-year-old Blomqvist has a 3.16 GAA and .908 SV% in four outings this season (2-2-0). The Penguins enter action on Friday as +191 road underdogs against the Oilers.

Skinner will start on Tuesday vs. Carolina.

Despite some shaky outings, the Oilers will turn to Skinner between the pipes for the fourth time in the last five games. Skinner allowed three goals on 23 shots (.870 SV%) in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars and has allowed three or more goals in all four of his outings this season (1-3-0), posting an ugly 4.03 GAA and .851 SV%. The Oilers enter the action on Tuesday as -122 home favorites against a Carolina Hurricanes club off to a modest 2-2-0 start.

Dumba (lower-body) has been activated off of IR and will return on Tuesday in Buffalo.

Dumba exited the Stars' second game of the season after playing only 6:02 time-on-ice and missed the next four games, but will re-enter the lineup on Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres. Brendan Smith will exit the lineup as a healthy scratch to welcome Dumba's return. The 30-year-old Dumba signed a two-year contract worth $7.5 million ($3.75 AAV) with the Stars in the offseason to be paired next to Miro Heiskanen on the Stars' top defensive pair.

Skinner will start on Saturday in Dallas.

After a disappointing three-game losing skid to start the season, the Oilers have won two straight and will return to Skinner between the pipes on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars. Skinner has allowed three or more goals in each of his three games this season (1-2-0), but was solid in his most recent outing, saving 27 of 30 shots (.900 SV%) in a 4-3 overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Blomqvist will start on Friday vs. Carolina.

Blomqvist entered the season as the Penguins' third string goalie but has worked his way into the mix due to a preseason injury to Alex Nedeljkovic. In a surprising turn of events, Blomqvist has been the Penguins best goalie this season, outperforming a struggling Tristan Jarry, and will start for the third time in their first six games. The 22-year-old Blomqvist has a 2.86 GAA and .913 SV% in three appearances this season (2-1-0). The Penguins enter action on Thursday as +146 home underdogs against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Tomasino is expected to draw back into Nashville's lineup on Thursday vs. Edmonton.

Juuso Parssinen will be a healthy scratch on Thursday, allowing Tomasino to re-enter the Predators' lineup after a one-game absence. The 23-year-old Tomasino has been held of the scoresheet in two games this season, registering five shots on goal and averaging 11:24 time-on-ice.

McGroarty has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL).

McGroarty was the 14th overall pick of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old was traded to Pittsburgh in the offseason after requesting a trade out of Winnipeg. McGroarty was held without a point in his first three NHL games but excelled at the NCAA level, with 16 goals and 52 points in only 36 games played in 2023-24 with the Michigan Wolverines.
