Philadelphia Flyers News

Vladar will start on Long Island on Friday.

With only seven games remaining this season, the Flyers, desperately battling to remain within playoff contention, will turn to Vladar on Friday against the New York Islanders. The 28-year-old Czech goalie has been a steadying presence between the pipes all season, but he is coming off a disappointing performance, allowing five goals on 17 shots (.706 SV%) in a 6-4 loss to the Washington Capitals. The loss marked only the second time in the last 16 appearances that Vladar had allowed more than three goals in a game (8-5-3). The Flyers enter Friday's contest as +123 road underdogs against an Islanders team that has been outscored 12-6 in their last two games (0-2-0).

Philadelphia has signed David Jiricek to a two-year contract extension worth $1.5 million AAV ($3M total).

Jiricek was drafted sixth-overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but has had trouble being a permanent fixture at the NHL level. The 22-year-old defenseman has been traded twice in the last two years, with stints in Columbus, Minnesota, and now Philadelphia. He has yet to play a game with the Flyers, but has been effective at the AHL level, scoring 10 points (2G / 8A) in 10 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
