The 34-year-old has struggled to start this season, posting a .897 SV% and 3.07 GAA to go along with a 2-3-1 record. He draws a good matchup with the San Jose Sharks who are 31st in the NHL in goals per game (2.42).
Studnicka was acquired by the Canucks last week for Michael DiPietro and Jonathan Myrenberg. The 2017 2nd rd pick (53rd overall) played 38 games with the Bruins prior to the deal, collecting a goal and seven points with a -7 plus/minus rating.
It will be the first time this season the 26-year-old has been sent to the press box through seven games. He has yet to collect his first point of the season after picking up 13 points (3G/10A) in 54 games with the Blues in 2021-22.
Marchand is just returning from offseason hip surgery and will likely need a night's rest after returning almost a month ahead of schedule for the Bruins' 5-1 victory last night. Studnicka appeared in 15 games last season, picking up three assists and 21 shots. Studnicka will replace Jakub Lauko in the lineup and centre the third line with Trent Frederic and Charlie Coyle.
Ekblad left Monday's game with a lower-body injury and has landed on LTIR, which means he'll miss at least 10 goals or 24 days. The Panthers have yet to provide a timeline on his injury but this is obviously terrible news for a team that was already thin on the blueline.
