Detroit Red Wings News

Gibson will start in Washington on Saturday.

Detroit is coming off a 4-1 loss to the Utah Mammoth, but they have been excellent lately when relying on John Gibson, who will return to the crease on Saturday against the Washington Capitals. The 32-year-old Gibson struggled early in his tenure with the Red Wings, but is sporting an exceptional 1.65 GAA and .946 SV% in his last five games (5-0-0).

Talbot will start vs. Utah on Wednesday.

The Red Wings have played well lately, with points in eight of their last nine (6-1-2), largely due to the improved play of John Gibson between the pipes. That said, they will turn to Talbot on Wednesday against the Utah Mammoth. The 38-year-old Talbot has a 3.01 GAA and .885 SV% in 17 games (9-5-2) and has lost five straight decisions (0-3-2). The Red Wings enter Wednesday’s contest as -118 home favorites against a Mammoth team that has lost four of their last six (2-4-0).

Cam Talbot
Gibson will start vs. the Islanders on Tuesday.

The Red Wings acquired Gibson in the offseason to stabilize an inconsistent crease over the past few seasons, but early in his tenure, he had provided the opposite. That said, the 32-year-old veteran goalie appears to be turning a corner, winning five straight outings while recording a 2.05 GAA, .940 SV%, and two shutouts. The Red Wings hope Gibson can stay hot, entering Tuesday's contest as -128 home favorites against a New York Islanders team that has won six of their last seven (6-1-0).

John Gibson
Kane is expected to miss at least the next two games due to an upper-body injury.

Kane has regularly missed multi-game stents with the Red Wings over the past three seasons, and will return to the sidelines for at least two more games due to an upper-body injury. The 37-year-old forward has already missed nine games this season, but he has been terrific when healthy, scoring 23 points (6G / 17A) in 24 games.

Patrick Kane
Talbot will start in Edmonton on Thursday.

The Red Wings will unsurprisingly turn to Talbot on Thursday after John Gibson got the nod in Calgary on Wednesday. Talbot lost his fourth consecutive start in his last outing, allowing five goals on 32 shots in a 6-5 shootout loss in Columbus on December 4th. The 38-year-old netminder brings a 9-4-2 record and .884 SV% into Thursday night's matchup with the Oilers, where the Red Wings enter action at +150 on the money line.

Cam Talbot
Gustafsson is expected to draw back into Detroit's lineup vs. Edmonton on Thursday.

Simon Edvinsson (lower body) will not play on Thursday, resulting in the Red Wings recalling Gustafsson from the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL). The 33-year-old Gustafsson played one game with the Red Wings this season, recording zero points in 17:23 time-on-ice.

Erik Gustafsson
Edvinsson (lower-body) left Detroit's game on Wednesday vs. Calgary and did not return.

Edvinsson was limited to only 14:37 time-on-ice in yesterday's 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames, exiting with a lower-body injury. The 22-year-old Edvinsson has played top-pair minutes this season, averaging a career-high 21:45 time-on-ice and scoring nine points (3G / 6A) in 28 games. The Red Wings recalled Erik Gustafsson in a corresponding move.
