The 34-year-old DeSmith entered yesterday's 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in relief of Jake Oettinger and saved 16 of 17 shots (.941 SV%). DeSmith has been solid in a supporting role this season, posting a 2.41 GAA and .913 SV% in 16 games (9-2-4), but his play has dipped recently, mirroring the Stars' struggles, with a 3.74 GAA and .864 SV% in his last three starts (1-1-1). The Stars enter Wednesday's contest as +106 road underdogs against a Capitals team coming off a 7-4 win against the Anaheim Ducks.

Dallas has signed Justin Hryckowian to a two-year, $950,000 AAV contract extension ($1.9M total).

Hryckowian is an undrafted forward who impressed in the AHL last season, winning the rookie of the year, scoring 60 points (22G / 38A) in 67 games with the Texas Stars (AHL), ultimately earning himself a roster spot with Dallas in training camp this season. The 24-year-old has played all but one game for Dallas this season, primarily in a bottom-six role, scoring 13 points (6G / 7A) in 42 games.

The 27-year-old American goalie has allowed three or more goals in three straight games (0-1-2). He has a 2.62 GAA and .905 SV% in 27 games this season (16-7-4). The Stars enter the action on Tuesday as +122 road underdogs against a Hurricanes team that snapped a three-game losing streak in their most recent game, a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.
