Smith (lower-body) was placed on IR but is questionable to play in the Devils season opener.
Smith is battling an undisclosed lower-body injury that landed him on IR on Monday but he remains eligible to play in the season opener if he's healthy enough. The Devils don't start their season until Friday, so keep an eye on Smith's status throughout the week.
Carrier is in concussion protocol and doubtful for Tuesday's season opener.

The Hurricanes have signed Ronan Seeley to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Seeley was a seventh-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2020. The 6-foot-1, 192 lbs. defenseman had five goals and 12 assists (17 points) in 23 games with the Everett Silvertips (WHL).
The Hurricanes have acquired Jesperi Kotkaniemi from the Canadiens. The Hurricanes have given up a 2022 1st and 3rd round picks for signing Kotkaniemi to a one-year, $6.1 million contract via offer sheet.

Hall had a slow start with the Sabres in 2021 but found his stride after a midseason trade to the Bruins. Once in Boston, Hall was tied for 32nd with 14 points (8G / 6A) in 16 games. Hall was the perfect fit for the Bruins' second line and signs a very reasonable $6.0M AAV deal to stay with them for the next four years.
The Coyotes have acquired Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2022 second-round pick and a 2022 seventh-round pick from the Flyers.
Gostisbehere was outstanding from 2016-to-2019, tying for 14th among defensemen with 187 points (46G / 141A) but has fallen out of favour over the last two seasons. Over that stretch he is tied for 90th but getting a second-round and seventh-round pick to take him is an easy gamble for the Coyotes. With Oliver Ekman-Larsson being traded to the Canucks, Gostisbehere should see plenty of PP time in 2021-22.
Kotkaniemi will be a scratch for Game 4 vs. the Lightning.
Slavin (lower-body) is on the ice for warmups; expected to play in Game 5.
