Anaheim Ducks News

Leo Carlsson (load management) will sit out Friday vs. Florida.

Karlsson will get the night off Friday vs. Florida as Anaheim continues the 18-year-old's load management plan. The Ducks' star prospect has been sensational in his first NHL season, with six goals, two assists, 23 SOG, four PIMs and a -3 plus/minus through 11 games played.

Leo Carlsson
Tristan Luneau has been recalled from San Diego (AHL) from a conditioning loan.

Luneau was originally assigned to San Diego (AHL) for a conditioning loan but has been recalled to Anaheim Friday. The 19-year-old defensemen was Anaheim's 2022 second-round pick (53rd overall) and returns to the NHL where he appeared in two games earlier in the season and failed to pick up a point while averaging 15:28 TOI.

Petr Mrazek will start Thursday vs. Tampa Bay.

Mrazek will look for his third consecutive victory on Thursday as the starting goalie against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Blackhawks rank in the bottom third of the league defensively, allowing an average of 3.46 goals per game. That said, Mrazek has quietly put together an impressive 2023-24 campaign thus far, boasting a 2.84 GAA and .921 SV% through eight contests (4-3-0). The Blackhawks are +160 home underdogs but have an intriguing matchup against the Lightning, who have been shut out in back-to-back games, and lost three straight contests (0-3-0), including a 5-3 loss at the hands of Mrazek and the Blackhawks.

Dostal will start in Colorado on Wednesday.

Dostal will be in net for the tail-end of Anaheim's back-to-back after starter John Gibson got the nod in Nashville on Tuesday. It's Dostal's first start since surrendering five goals on 35 shots in a 6-3 defeat to the Flyers last Friday. Dostal owns a 5-2-0 record on the year to go along with his .910 SV% and 3.15 GAA. He draws a difficult assignment on Wednesday with the Ducks being +240 underdogs in Colorado.

Lukas Dostal
Carlsson will be a scratch for Tuesday's game in Nashville.

This is presumably just a chance for Carlsson to rest as the Ducks have stated they plan on managing his workload early in the season. The 2023 second-overall pick is off to a great start to his rookie season, piling up six goals and two assists in his first ten games. Look for Carlsson to return to the lineup for Wednesday's game in Colorado.

Lukas Dostal will start Friday vs. Philadelphia.

Dostal will return to the Ducks' crease on Friday after watching John Gibson save 64 of 67 shots (.955 SV%) over the past two games (1-1-0). To that point, Dostal had outplayed Gibson on the season, but still has stellar numbers, boasting a 2.80 GAA and .920 SV% through six games (5-1-0). The 23-year-old Czech goaltender will look to extend his winning streak to five games as the Ducks take on a Philadelphia Flyers team that ranks in the bottom half of the league offensively (2.92 GF / GP) and will be without their starting goalie, Carter Hart.

Lukas Dostal
Ville Husso will start Saturday vs. Columbus.

Husso gave up five goals on 32 shots in the Red Wings loss in New York on Tuesday. The 2023-24 season has been a struggle so far for Husso, who has allowed at least three goals in eight of nine starts while posting a 3.57 GAA and .890 SV%. On Saturday, he'll take on a Blue Jackets team that hast lost three in a row and seven of their last eight, but are expected to get Patrik Laine back in the lineup.

Ville Husso
Ryan Poehling is expected to be a healthy scratch Friday vs. Anaheim.

Peohling has an assist, 10 SOG, two PIMs and a -2 plus/minus through 11 games so far in 2023-24 but will be the odd man out of the Flyers' lineup Friday vs. Anaheim. The 24-year-old centre will give way to Morgan Frost, who has been a healthy scratch for the Flyers previous two games.

Ryan Poehling
Petr Mrazek will start Thursday vs. Tampa Bay.

Mrazek has started three of the last five contests for the Blackhawks and is set to start again on Thursday when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Considering the Blackhawks' 4-7-0 record and 24th-ranked team defence (3.45 GA / GP), Mrazek has been tremendous, boasting a 2.81 GAA and .923 SV% through seven appearances (3-3-0). Despite his stellar play, the Blackhawks are sizeable +202 road underdogs against a Lightning team that has scored at least five goals in each of their last three games (2-0-1).

Ville Husso will start Tuesday vs. the New York Rangers.

Husso will take the Red Wings' crease for a fourth-straight start Tuesday after stopping 26 of 30 shots (.867 SV%) in a win over Boston his last time between the pipes. The 28-year-old has gone through an up-and-down start to the 2023-24 season, with his 5-2-1 record, .896 SV% and 3.37 GAA. He will head to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers Tuesday, who had won six of their last seven games but are 18th in the NHL in goals per game (3.09).

Ville Husso
Mrazek will start Saturday vs. the Panthers.

Mrazek's last appearance came in a relief effort vs. Arizona where he stopped 10 of 11 shots (.909 SV%) as he was on damage control but will be the starter Saturday vs. Florida. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season, with his 2-3-0 record, .917 SV% and 2.96 GAA. He should be busy Saturday, as he takes on the Florida Panthers, who despite being fourth in the NHL in shots per game (33.6) is 25th in goals per game (2.67).
