The Senators have signed Thomas Chabot to an eight-year contract extension worth $64 million ($8.0M AAV).

Chabot is coming off of a fantastic sophomore campaign, scoring 14 goals with 41 assists (55 points) in 70 games. The Senators have a young, up-and-coming team and Chabot could lead the team in points in 2020. The 22-year-old has just one career power-play goal, something that will change this season and allow him to approach last year’s totals.

Chabot is week-to-week with a broken toe.

Chabot blocked a shot in the second period of Monday’s loss to the Flyers and played in the third period despite suffering a broken toe. This is a huge loss for the Senators but will help them in their efforts to give the Avalanche the No.1 overall pick this summer. With Chabot hurt, Christian Wolanin and Cody Ceci skated as the Senators top-pairing in Wednesday’s practice.

Chabot is expected to skate with Dylan DeMelo at 5v5 and back on the top power-play unit.

Chabot (upper-body) will not play on Saturday.

Chabot was forced to leave Friday’s game against the Islanders with an upper-body injury and will not be available on Sunday, The Senators are now without their No.1 defenseman and No.1 goalie which is going to make things very difficult for an already overmatched team. There is no word on the severity of Chabot’s injury so consider him day-to-day until we get more information.

Chabot has moved to the Senators top power-play.

The Senators have been terrible this season and their power-play sits at 25th in the NHL (15.9%). Chabot is a gifted young offensive-defenseman and after changing their power-play coach, Chabot becomes the quarterback of the top unit with Erik Karlsson on his left and Mark Stone on his right.

Chabot will be back in the Senators lineup on Friday.

Chabot has been a healthy scratch for the last two games, but will replace Ben Harpur in the lineup tonight vs. the Islanders. Chabot brings a much-needed boost to the Senators offence that has gone cole recently. Chabot has picked up three assists in five games with Ottawa this season.

The Senators blueline is banged up; Erik Karlsson is still fighting a foot injury, Johnny Oduya missed Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury and Ben Harpur left that game with an upper-body ailment. Chabot, who was expected to make the opening night roster, has one goal and one assist in two games with Belleville (AHL). Look for Chabot to make his season debut on tomorrow in Vancouver.

Chabot, 19, was the No.18 overall pick in 2015, but only appeared in one game during the Senators’ first nine games. Chabot had a tough time cracking the lineup, so he heads back to Saint John, where he had 11 goals and 34 assists (45 points) in 47 games a season ago.
