Things appear to be turning around for Varlamov who had a rough two months to start the season. He draws a nice matchup against a Predators team that has lost three of his last five.

In his first game back from injury, he stopped 20 of 21 in a win in Winnipeg, so the matchup shouldn’t scare you.

Obviously one start doesn’t mean he is back and he will face a much stiffer test tonight with the Senators in town. After posting a 3.26 GAA and .890 SV% in his first 10 games, he had fallen behind Reto Berra, but Berra has struggled in his last three games, so Varlamov could reclaim his job as the Avs’ No. 1 goalie with a couple of strong outings.
Varlamov suffered a groin injury in Tuesday’s morning skate and is out day-to-day with the injury. Varlamov has played second fiddle to Reto Berra this season, so it is not as big of a loss as it has been in the past. With Varlamov out, the Avalanche have recalled Calvin Pickard.
