Semyon Varlamov News

Varlamov stopped all four shots that he faced after replacing Jonathan Bernier (head) in Colorado’s win over the Coyotes on Saturday. With Bernier back on the shelf, the crease is all Varlamov’s moving forward. Tonight he faces the Wild, who he beat on March 2nd, but has lost three in a row (all in OT) since, allowing a combined 11 goals on 102 shots (.892 SV%).

Varlamov allowed two goals on 27 shots in Colorado’s loss in Chicago on Tuesday. Varlamov has lost two in a row while allowing a combined six goals on 58 shots (.897 SV%). Varlamov turned in an admirable performance on Thursday, stopping 43 of the 46 shots he faced in a losing effort against the Oilers. With Jonathan Bernier (concussion) sidelined without a timetable for his return, Varlamov should get nearly all of the starts for the Avalanche in the foreseeable future. He has a tough matchup this afternoon in Calgary.

Varlamov allowed four goals on just 28 shots in the Avs’ 5-4 victory over the Canucks on Tuesday. Despite the shaky start, Varlamov should continue to see a full workload in the absence of Jonathan Bernier. He draws a good matchup tonight on the road in Edmonton.

Varlamov turned in a solid performance in a losing effort against the Oilers on Sunday, stopping 36 of the 39 shots he faced. The strong start was encouraging for Varlamov, who should see plenty of action so long as Jonathan Bernier (concussion) remains sidelined. He draws a good matchup tonight in Vancouver.

Varlamov allowed three goals on 11 shots after replacing Jonathan Bernier in Colorado’s blowout loss in St. Louis on Thursday. Varlamov has now given up five goals on 42 shots (.881 SV%) since returning from a groin injury last Saturday. In his first start vs. Carolina in 2017-18, Varlamov made a ridiculous 57 saves on 60 shots in a 5-3 win in early-November.

Varlamov was a full participant in Monday’s practice but won’t be available for Tuesday’s game. Varlamov will travel on their three-game road-trip and could play at some point over that stretch, but he will need to participate in at least one or two more practices before that becomes a reality.

The Avalanche have two games before their bye week so Varlamov will miss at least those two games with a “muscular thing.” With Varlamov out, Andrew Hammond has been recalled to backup Jonathan Bernier.
