Ferland (concussion) will be back in the Hurricanes lineup on Tuesday.

Ferland missed the last four games with a concussion will be back against the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Ferland is expected to skate in the bottom-6 to start the game, so he doesn’t have as much fantasy value as he did earlier in the year.

With Ferland out, the Hurricanes are forced to shuffle their lines and Clark Bishop is up from Charlotte (AHL) to centre the fourth line. It is difficult to pinpoint how long a player will be sidelined with a concussion so consider Ferland day-to-day.

Ferland missed Thursday’s practice and is questionable for Friday’s game vs. the Ducks. Clark Bishop was recalled from Charlotte (AHL) and would take Ferland’s spot in the lineup if he can’t play. Monitor his status during the Hurricanes’ morning skate on Friday morning.

Ferland was acquired along with Dougie Hamilton from the Flames this offseason and will look to build off of a career-best 41 points (21G / 20A) in 2018. Ferland will be held off of the ice for “a few days” according to Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour, so it doesn’t sound like he’s in any danger of missing the start of the season.

Ferland had the best season of his career in 2018, scoring 21 goals with 20 assists (41 points) in 77 games. He spent the majority of his time on a line with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, but struggled away from them. That trio had a 53.77 CF% and 61.9 GF% in 704:39 together at 5v5, but Ferland saw those rates drop to a 48.76 CF% and 31.25 GF% without Gaudreau and Monahan.

Ferland missed last Saturday’s game in Vancouver but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. Carolina. Ferland has already lost his top-line spot next two Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau and with that he lost most of his fantasy value. He has just one goal on 12 shots in five games this season.

Ferland, who missed Saturday’s game in Vancouver, also missed today’s practice. Glen Gulutzan said that he hopes Ferland can be back on the ice tomorrow, but his status for Thursday’s game vs. the Hurricanes is in question.
