Gibson has had a tremendous start to 2019-20, going 2-0 while stopping 67 of the 69 shots (.971 SV%). The Ducks have given up plenty of chances but Gibson has stood tall so far. He will need to continue what he has started if the Ducks are going to have any success this season. Tonight he faces a Red Wings team that is also 2-0 to start the season and are being carried by a red-hot first-line.
Gibson stopped 32 of the 33 shots in the Ducks 2-1 win over the Coyotes on Thursday. Gibson will need to turn in performances like this on a nightly basis for the Ducks to be successful. The Sharks have had a terrible start to the season and Gibson was 2-0-1 with 2.96 GAA and .919 SV% against them last year.
Gibson started 57 games, going 26-22-8 with a 2.84 GAA and .917 SV%, the worst numbers since his rookie campaign. The Ducks did not do much to improve in front of Gibson this offseason, so it’s difficult to envision him returning to 30-plus wins. Tonight he faces a Coyotes team that went 1-0-2 with a 2.27 GAA, .936 SV% and one shutout against last season.
Gibson stopped 30 of 31 shots in the Ducks win in Edmonton last Saturday. Gibson started the year strong and is finishing strong, winning three in a row and seven of his last eight while posting a 2.50 GAA and .925 SV%. The Ducks did him no justice this season but Gibson has won at least 25 games in three straight seasons now and should be a top goalie target heading into 2019-20.
Gibson allowed five goals on 33 shots in the Ducks loss to the Blues on Wednesday. Gibson has gone 1-2-0 with a 2.71 GAA and .913 SV% in three starts since returning to the Ducks crease. Tonight he faces a Canadiens team that has lost eight of their last 13 games (5-7-1) and come in on the tail-end of a back-to-back.
Gibson allowed one goal on 26 shots in the Ducks win over the Avalanche on Sunday. Gibson has played solidly since returning from injury, stopping 56 of he 59 shots (.949 SV%) that he has faced in two games. He draws a tough assignment on Wednesday with St. Louis in town—the Blues are 13-3-1 in their last 17 games.
Ducks’ interim head coach and GM Bob Murray said that Gibson was moved to IR after being “whacked a whole bunch on one play” and is just “not right anywhere up there.” The Ducks are also without Chad Johnson right now, so Ryan Miller will return as the backup for Kevin Boyle, who will be making his NHL debut.
Gibson was crunched in a collision with his teammate Jaycob Megna late in the second period. Gibson remained in goal for the final 1:52 of the period but was replaced by Chad Johnson for the third. The way the Ducks are playing right now, Gibson isn’t a good option regardless. Consider him questionable for Saturday’s game in Philadelphia.
Gibson allowed five goals on 35 shots in the Ducks loss in Toronto on Monday. Gibson is in the middle of a very difficult stretch, allowing a combined 16 goals on 80 shots (.800 SV%) in his last three games. The Ducks don’t seem to care anymore but Gibson has a chance to get back on-track tonight. He draws a great matchup in Ottawa, vs. a Sens team that played last night.
Gibson was pulled after allowing six goals on 14 shots in the Ducks 9-3 loss in Winnipeg on Saturday. Gibson is doing his best behind a lacklustre Ducks team and things may get even worse in Toronto tonight. After November, Gibson was 9-8-4 with a 2.54 GAA (14th in the NHL) and a .927 SV% (t-5th). Since then he is 7-9-2 with a 3.31 GAA (42nd) and .899 SV% (33rd).
