Jacob Markstrom News

Markstrom was scheduled to miss a couple of weeks after suffering a lower-body injury on October 13th and appears to be nearing a return, scheduled to resume practicing on Saturday. The Devils' tandem of Jake Allen and Nico Daws has played well in Markstrom's absence, but the team will be thrilled for his impending return to the crease. The 35-year-old Markstrom has a 3.89 GAA and .845 SV% in three games this season (2-1-0).

Jake Allen was the starting goalie in Monday's 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, but exited due to cramping and was replaced by Markstrom. Markstrom saved 8 of 9 shots (.889 SV%) in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets, but appeared to be in discomfort towards the end of the contest. The team confirmed Markstrom will be sidelined for several weeks. Expect Jake Allen and the recently recalled Nico Daws to occupy the Devils' crease in Markstrom's absence.

The Devils will likely turn to Markstrom between the pipes on Thursday in their season-opening matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 35-year-old Markstrom had a solid, albeit unspectacular, first season with the Devils in 2024-25, posting a 2.50 GAA, .900 SV%, and four shutouts in 49 games (26-16-6). The Devils enter Thursday's contest as +150 road underdogs against a Hurricanes team that is widely believed to be a top Stanley Cup contender.

Markstrom will be looking to rebound from his worst performance of the series as he tries to help his team stave off elimination on Tuesday. The 35-year-old netminder allowed four goals on 28 shots in a 5-2 loss in Game 4 on Sunday. Despite the 3-1 series deficit, Markstrom has arguably been New Jersey's best player in the series, posting a .913 SV% across the opening four games. That will certainly need to be the case again on Tuesday as the Devils enter action at +225 on the money line.

Facing a 2-0 series deficit, Markstrom and the Devils will be hoping the third time's the charm when they host the Hurricanes for Game 3 on Friday. Markstrom is hardly the one to blame for the hole the Devils find themselves in, as evident by his .930 SV% and 2.52 GAA. New Jersey will thankfully be playing on home ice for the first time in the series, where Markstrom logged a 14-7-4 record across 26 regular season appearances. The Devils enter action on Friday at +135 on the money line.

Marksrom had an eventful Game 1 for New Jersey, saving 41 of 44 shots (.932 SV%) in the 4-1 loss, and will likely return to the crease for Game 2 on Tuesday. He has played reasonably in his playoff career, showcasing a serviceable 2.90 GAA and .912 SV%, but has a losing record in 27 games (13-14). The Devils enter Game 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes as significant +217 road underdogs.

Coming off an impressive 26-save shutout, his fourth of the season, Markstrom will return to the crease on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins. After an ugly stretch, posting a 3.87 GAA and .846 SV% in his first eight games back from an injury (2-5-1), Markstrom has been excellent in his last three (3-0-0), posting a tremendous 1.30 GAA and .950 SV%. The Devils enter Tuesday's contest as sizeable -249 home favorites against a Bruins team that has lost 11 of their last 12 games (1-10-1).

After saving 22 of 24 shots (.917 SV%) in a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild, Markstrom will return to the crease on Monday in a rematch against Minnesota. The 35-year-old has a 2.50 GAA and .900 SV% in 45 games this season (24-14-6). His win over Minnesota was the first time he allowed fewer than three goals in seven contests (2-4-1). New Jersey enters Monday's contest as -157 home favorites against a Minnesota team that has lost three of their last four games (1-3-0).

The Devils have lost three straight (0-2-1) and will turn to Markstrom between the pipes on Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Markstrom allowed three goals on 28 shots (.893 SV%) in his most recent outing, a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The 35-year-old goalie has a 2.50 GAA and .900 SV%.
