Frederik Andersen News

Andersen is expected to start Wednesday vs. the Penguins.

Brandon Bussi, the 27-year-old rookie goalie and feel-good story of the 2025-26 season, has struggled lately, opening the door for Andersen to reclaim the Carolina crease. As such, Andersen has won three straight but has failed to impress, posting subpar numbers of 2.94 GAA and .857 SV%. The 36-year-old veteran goalie has a 2.57 GAA and .879 SV% in five games since returning from the Olympic break (4-1-0). The Hurricanes enter Wednesday's contest as -141 home favourites against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that will welcome Sidney Crosby (lower-body) back from a multi-week absence.

Andersen has had a largely disappointing 2025-26 season, but recent struggles from Brandon Bussi have given him more opportunities, during which he has shown some encouraging signs. The 36-year-old veteran Andersen is sporting an under-.500 record for the first time in his career (9-11-5), but he has been much more dependable in recent games, posting a 4-1-3 record in his last eight, albeit with an underwhelming 2.59 GAA and .886 SV%. The Hurricanes enter Tuesday's contest as significant -204 home favourites against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that is 3-3-2 since the Olympic break, while playing without Sidney Crosby (lower body) and, more recently, Evgeni Malkin (suspension).

The Hurricanes have alternated goalies, occasionally relying more heavily on Brandon Bussi. Still, after a strong performance by Andersen, saving 27 of 29 shots (.931 SV%) in a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, the team will turn to him again in hopes of helping him get into a rhythm. The 36-year-old Andersen has had an unmemorable 2025-26 season but has shown encouraging signs in his recent outings, saving 113 of 123 shots (.919 SV%) in his last four games (2-0-2). The Hurricanes enter Monday's contest as -175 road favourites against a Seattle Kraken team coming off a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

It has been a very difficult season for Andersen, who is 7-10-5 with a 3.26 GAA and .871 SV% for the Carolina Hurricanes. He will return to the crease on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings. The 36-year-old Andersen is coming off a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks, where he saved 11 of 13 shots (.846 SV%), ending a miserable seven-game losing streak (0-7-2) where he posted an ugly 3.82 GAA and .840 SV%.
