Jets’ Logan Stanley suspended one game for roughing Senators’ Brady Tkachuk

The NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday that Winnipeg Jets defenseman Logan Stanley has been suspended for one game for roughing Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.
Winnipeg’s Logan Stanley will have a hearing today for roughing Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk.
The NHL DoPS cited the recklessness of Stanley’s action as the reason for the suspension, but his lack of previous history with no fines or suspensions on his record was why the suspension only came to one game.
The incident in question came midway through the second period of the Jets’ 4-2 loss to the Senators on Saturday. As Stanley was making a pass out of the Jets’ end, Tkachuk went for a hit on the defenseman, with Stanley immediately grabbing hold of Tkachuk. The two began to toss each other around, with Stanley removing Tkachuk’s helmet, and as a referee attempted to break up the tussle, Stanley dropped his gloves and sucker-punched Tkachuk, who did not have his gloves off.

Stanley was penalized on the play, receiving a two-minute penalty for roughing, and another two minutes for roughing with the specification of removing Tkachuk’s helmet. Tkachuk received a 10-minute misconduct for the infraction as well. The Senators scored on the second half of the four-minute power play to make it 3-1 courtesy of Drake Batherson, with the goal eventually being the game-winner.
While Stanley had never received supplemental discipline in his NHL career prior to this suspension, he has been on the other end of supplemental discipline twice. Josh Archibald was suspended one game for clipping Stanley in 2021, while Evgeni Malkin was fined $5,000 for slashing the defenseman earlier this season.
Stanley has had a career year offensively for the Jets, as he has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 40 games. Prior to this season, Stanley had never had more than one goal in a season, and he’s now just one point away from tying his career high in points established last season.
