What’s next for Canada after gold medal loss?

Canada suffered the ultimate loss.
With a monster lineup, featuring the best player in the world, the team fell short of capturing the gold medal in the NHL’s return to the Winter Olympics. The Canadians lost to the United States in the championship game in Milan, in an overtime thriller.
However, the loss has a little extra sting for Canada, a team that had a few veterans, including captain Sidney Crosby, who might be playing at the Winter Games for the last time. It could lead to a change in the guard, and some of the core to complement the likes of Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar.
The defeat doesn’t take away from the great performances many of the players had in Italy. Connor McDavid scored more points than any player at the Olympics in the NHL era, goaltender Jordan Binnington rising to the big moments and Macklin Celebrini further cementing his status as a star in the game today…Canada certainly is the best silver-medal team the men’s hockey tournament has ever seen.
During the postgame show on Daily Faceoff, former NHL goaltender and Thunder Bay, Ont. native Carter Hutton explained what the next steps Canada might take following the loss on sport’s biggest stage.
Carter Hutton: I think it’s status quo, Jeff. Like, you gotta be totally honest with this. It was a great performance. It was a great game. It was a great tournament. I think at times…playing from behind helped them. They started on time today, you know, and I think from the first period on, they played really, really well. You know, I guess maybe you start to think about – where does the goaltending depth come from? Who’s the next guy? You’re one kid away from being the next big thing and having that goaltending. So I think it starts just…I don’t know. I’m just so disappointed right now.
