The Vancouver Canucks have announced that they’ve signed defenseman Victor Mancini to a two-year contract extension with a cap hit of $1 million.

Mancini was in the final year of his two-year, entry-level contract with an $870,000 cap hit, and was set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights in the summer. His new contract is a one-way contract, and will see him make $950,000 in the 2026-27 season and $1.05 million in 2027-28.

“Victor has fit in nicely with our organization,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement announcing the signing. “He was a key part of our Calder Cup winning team last year in Abbotsford, and this season he has continued to develop his skill set with the help of our group. Depth on the backend is very important for our team moving forward and we are happy to have Victor be a part of the blue-line mix.”

According to AFPAnalytics, Mancini was projected to get a one-year, $850,000 contract this season, so he gets a bit more than expected on this deal.

With this being Mancini’s first non-EL deal, it’s also the first time he will have a seven-figure cap hit, and receives a raise of $130,000. His closest cap hit comparable is Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Parker Wotherspoon, who will be in the second year of his two-year deal at a $1 million cap hit.

Mancini hasn’t played a ton at the NHL level this season, only getting into 18 games with the Canucks and failing to register a point in any game. He did miss eight games due to an undisclosed injury, but has also spent plenty of time in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks, where he has four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 33 games.

After Mancini’s extension, the Canucks are projected to have around $23 million in salary cap space next season. They still have seven unrestricted free agents and seven RFAs, highlighted by Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger and Derek Forbort.
