Canucks’ Filip Chytil to undergo x-rays after taking puck to head in practice

Vancouver Canucks forward Filip Chytil’s terrible injury luck continues, even with the NHL regular season on hiatus due to the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
During practice on Wednesday, a shot struck Chytil in the head by a slapshot, dazing him and forcing him to leave practice. He will undergo x-rays for further evaluation.

Chytil, 26, has a tough history with head injuries and concussions. He has officially suffered two concussions over the course of his NHL career, including most recently in March of 2025. In October of this season, he suffered what was only classified as an upper-body injury after taking a big hit from Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson, which forced him to miss 44 games. He also missed Vancouver’s final game before the Olympic break with migraines.
In just 12 games played this season, the Czech national has three goals and no assists.
The Canucks acquired Chytil midway through last season as part of the trade that sent forward J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers. In 15 games for the Canucks last season after coming over in the deal, he notched two goals and four assists for six points.
Chytil was selected 21st overall by the New York Rangers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his first six-plus full NHL seasons in New York, having his career-best campaign in 2022-23 when he notched 22 goals and 23 assists for 45 points in 74 games.
Chytil is the third season of a four-year, $17.75 million deal that he initially signed with the Rangers. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent following next season.
With 42 points through 57 games, Vancouver sits dead last in the entire NHL, seven points behind the second-last placed team. They are set to continue their season after the Olympic break when they host the Winnipeg Jets on February 25th.
