USA Hockey has announced its preliminary 25-player roster for the upcoming IIHF Men’s World Hockey Championship, set to take place in Switzerland.

Matthew Tkachuk is the lone representative from the 2026 Winter Olympic team that won gold, while Mason Lohrei and Ike Howard return from the 2025 World Championship team that won gold. Justin Faulk is the only other player on the roster to have won a medal at the World’s, taking home bronze in 2013 and 2015.

“We’re excited about our group,” GM Brett Peterson said in a USA Hockey statement. “We’ve got a good blend of players that are excited about representing our country and competing for a gold medal. We’re looking forward to the tournament and know Switzerland will be a great host.”

IIHF rosters can officially contain 25 registered players at a time. Most teams don’t register their entire roster until they need the players, meaning the squad could elect to keep players off ther roster in case NHLers become available following the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Americans won the 2025 World Championship, giving the team gold for the first time in 92 years. USA Hockey also swept gold at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, taking home the title in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

The tournament will run from May 15-31, with USA playing Group A games at the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, Switzerland. USA will take on Germany in its lone pre-tournament game at 11:00 AM ET on May 10 before kicking off the main event against the hosts from Switzerland on May 15. Other round-robin opponents include Great Britain, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Hungary and Austria.
