Philadelphia Phillies players booed at Flyers’ game

So much for the city of brotherly love.

Several players from Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies were in attendance for Game 6 between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night, and when they appeared on the jumbotron, fans did not hold back.

A big chunk of the more than 20,000 fans in attendance rained boos on the ballplayers, highlighting the city’s dissatisfaction with the Phillies’ performance through 29 games. Their Wednesday contest against the San Francisco Giants was postponed due to weather, but that didn’t mean they could hide from Philly fans.

The Phillies fired manager Rob Thomson Tuesday morning after a 9-19 start, replacing him with bench coach Don Mattingly. They had a 10-game losing streak between April 14 and 24.

As for the hockey game, Cam York scored late in overtime to give the Flyers a 1-0 win, sending Philadelphia to the second round for the first time since 2020, the last time they participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Flyers avoided becoming the fifth team in NHL history to lose a series after jumping out to a 3-0 lead, as Pittsburgh nearly pushed them to the limit.

Dan Vladar stopped 42 shots for the Flyers, earning his second shutout of the series. He posted a .937 save percentage (SV%) and 1.61 goals against average (GAA) through six games in the first round.

Rasmus Ristolainen led the team in points during the series, posting five points (one goal and four assists). Porter Martone and Travis Sanheim each had two goals in the season.

Philadelphia will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.
