Senators’ Thomas Chabot, Lassi Thomson leave game with injuries
The Ottawa Senators may have just caught an unfortunate break as they continue their late-season chase for a playoff spot.
During Monday’s 2-1 win over the New York Rangers, defensemen Thomas Chabot and Lassi Thomson each suffered injuries. The team announced that Chabot has a right arm injury and Thomson has a lower-body injury, and that neither player would return to the game.

Chabot, 29, appeared to sustain his injury after taking a nasty cross-check to the forearm or wrist area from Rangers forward J.T. Miller at the tail end of the first period.

Miller was not penalized for the play, though he did serve four minutes for a high-sticking double minor later in the game.
In 54 games this season, Chabot has seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points while averaging just under 23 minutes of ice time. He has played an important role as one of Ottawa’s top four defenders, and will be severely missed if he has to sit out for an extended period of time.
The cause of Thomson’s injury is less clear, but he was seen leaving the game midway through the second period with a noticeable limp.

Thomson, who was the Senators’ first-round draft pick in 2019, was making his first NHL appearance on Monday since the 2022-23 season, when he went scoreless in just two games for Ottawa. In 55 games for the AHL’s Belleville Senators this season, he’s registered 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points.
Following Monday’s game, Ottawa has 83 points through 70 games and sits two points back of a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Senators have two crucial games coming up, as they will visit the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday before heading home to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.
