Senators’ David Perron to miss 5-7 weeks with sports hernia injury

The Ottawa Senators will be without a veteran forward for at least the next handful of weeks.
Head coach Travis Green revealed on Thursday that David Perron will miss five to seven weeks due to a sports hernia.
David Perron is out five to seven weeks with a sports hernia injury. He will require surgery. That’s why he’s not here.
It’s an injury that’s been nagging at him for a while according to Travis Green.
Green said that the issue had been bothering Perron for a while, and will require surgery to repair.
Perron, 37, has 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 49 games this season. Last season, Perron played in only 43 games for the Senators because of a combination of injuries and personal reasons, and put up nine goals and seven assists for 16 points.

Originally selected 26th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Perron is now in his 19th NHL season. By his second NHL season in 2008-09, he established himself as a solid top-six winger, notching 15 goals and 35 assists for 50 points in 81 games. He has played for seven different franchises over his career, including two seperate stints in St. Louis. His best individual season came in 2017-18, his only one with the Vegas Golden Knights, when he registered 16 goals and 50 assists for 66 points in 70 games. He was also a key member of the Blues’ 2019 Stanley Cup championship team.
The Senators are currently tied for last place in the Atlantic Division with 53 points through 49 games. They are five points back of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Ottawa will finish up a three-game road trip against the Nashville Predators on Thursday, before kicking off a four-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
