Nick Suzuki becomes Canadiens’ first 100-point scorer in 40 years

Nick Suzuki recorded his 100th point of the season Sunday night, becoming the first Montreal Canadiens’ skater to reach the single-season milestone in 40 years.
The Canadiens’ captain reached the 100-point mark when the Habs faced the New York Islanders. Late in the second period of a scoreless game, Suzuki tapped in a Juraj Slafkovsky pass in front of the Isles’ net to score his 29th of the season to make it 1-0.

Suzuki is just the fifth player in Canadiens history to record 100 points in a single regular season, and the first to do it since 1985-86, when Mats Naslund did it for a Montreal squad that went on to win the Stanley Cup.
The other three Habs to reach the 100-point mark are Guy Lafleur, Peter Mahovlich and Steve Shutt. Lafleur did it six times while Mahovlich did it twice.
Going into Sunday night, Suzuki had played in seven NHL seasons, scoring 166 goals and 308 assists for 474 points in 535 career regular-season games. He scored a career-high 33 goals in 2023-24 and has reached career highs in assists and points in 2025-26.
Suzuki also has 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 37 Stanley Cup Playoff games. During his sophomore campaign, he was part of the Canadiens’ 2021 Stanley Cup Playoff run, where he recorded seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 22 games. Montreal would lose in five games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Suzuki, taken No. 13 overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, was traded to the Habs in September 2018, along with Tomas Tatar and a second-round pick, in exchange for Max Pacioretty.
In parts of four Ontario Hockey League seasons, the London, Ont., native scored 141 goals and recorded 187 assists for 328 points in 251 career regular-season games with the Owen Sound Attack and Guelph Storm. He posted three 90-point campaigns and a 100-point season in 2017-18.
Suzuki also recorded 29 goals and 50 assists for 79 points in 58 OHL playoff games. He led Guelph to an OHL championship in 2019, scoring 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 24 games, and was awarded the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as playoff MVP.
Internationally, Suzuki has represented Canada several times, including the 2026 Winter Olympics, where he scored twice and earned a silver medal.
