Blue Jackets’ Damon Severson to miss rest of 2025-26 following shoulder surgery

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced Friday that defenseman Damon Severson underwent surgery to repair his shoulder and will miss the rest of the 2025-26 NHL season.

Severson has been out since the Blue Jackets’ March 26 contest against the Montreal Canadiens, when Zachary Bolduc collided with the Columbus defender. He left the game and did not return.

Through 71 games this season, Severson has eight goals and 24 assists for 32 points while averaging 21:04 of ice time. In three seasons with the Blue Jackets, the 31-year-old has 23 goals and 62 assists for 85 points in 208 regular-season games in 20:25 of ice time.
Now in his 12th NHL season, Severson, a native of Melville, Sask., has 81 goals and 267 assists for 348 points, averaging 21:00 of ice time in 855 regular-season games with the Blue Jackets and New Jersey Devils.
He’s also played in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games, where he’s recorded one goal and two assists for three points, averaging 18:45 of ice time.
Taken by the Devils in the second round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Severson spent parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Kelowna Rockets, scoring 36 goals and 131 assists for 167 points in 260 career regular-season games.
The Blue Jackets are 38-26-12 with 88 points in 76 games, fourth in the Metropolitan Division and tied with the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings in the Eastern Conference Wildcard race.
