With approximately two weeks before the end of the regular season, Carrick’s availability for the start of the playoffs is now up in the air.
Carrick, 34, suffered the injury in a fight with forward Anders Lee during Tuesday’s 4-3 win over the New York Islanders. Carrick and Lee dropped the gloves after Lee temporarily knocked Sabres forward Josh Norris out of the game with a hit.
Sam Carrick appears to have seriously hurt his arm after fighting Anders Lee. Carrick dropped the gloves with Lee after Lee laid a hit on Josh Norris that took him out the game briefly.
Buffalo added Carrick at this year’s trade deadline, acquiring him from the New York Rangers in exchange for third- and sixth-round draft picks. In 13 games for the Sabres so far, the Markham, Ontario native has five goals and one assist for six points. In 60 games for the Rangers before the trade, he put up four goals and six assists for 10 points.
Initially selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Carrick is now on his fifth team over 10 seasons, having played for the Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, the Rangers, and now the Sabres. He has earned the reputation as a reliable, bottom-six center that can win faceoffs and kill penalties. His career-best offensive campaign came last season with New York, when he notched six goals and 14 assists for 20 points.
With 100 points through 75 games, Buffalo sits in first place in the Atlantic Division, two points up on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Sabres will go on a miniature two-game road trip as they’ll visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday and the Washington Capitals on Saturday, before returning home for a pivotal matchup against the Lightning on Monday.
